EXPERIENCE VISALIA & THE SEQUOIA REGION
Visalia and the Sequoia Region are blessed with natural beauty, the world's richest farmland and some of the most adventurous fun of a lifetime.
Discover this friendly community, rich with arts, agriculture, recreation and fine dining.
Enjoy our charming downtown and free trolley, shopping, more than 200 restaurants, the fabulous Fox Theater, galleries, farmers market and festivals.
Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks and Sequoia National Forest are a year round wonderland of spectacular scenery. Magnificent experiences and sights include the General Sherman Tree, the world's largest tree; the deepest canyon in North America and the Trail of 100 Giants. These parks are home to giants: immense mountains, deep canyons, and huge trees. Thanks to their huge elevational range, 1,500' to 14,491', they protect stunningly diverse habitats. The Generals Highway climbs over 5000 feet from chaparral and oak-studded foothills to the awe-inspiring sequoia groves. From there, trails lead to the high-alpine wilderness which makes up most of these parks. Beneath the surface lie over 200 fascinating caverns.
Although Congress created these two parks at different times, Sequoia and Kings Canyon share miles of boundary and are managed as one park. Sequoia was the second national park designated in this country. General Grant National Park, the forerunner of Kings Canyon, was third.
As you explore this landscape of giants, do so in step with nature. Be aware that human activity may conflict with natural events. One example: human - bear interactions can result in problems for both players. Store all food properly and learn other ways to keep your parks healthy and wild.
Operating Hours & Seasons
The two main entrances (on highways 198 & 180) are open daily year-round. Winter closures: The Mineral King area in Sequoia Park & the Cedar Grove area in Kings Canyon Park. Mineral King is open late May through October 31. Cedar Grove is open mid-April to mid-November. Crystal Cave, some campgrounds, and several side roads close for the winter. The main park road may close between Lodgepole & Grant Grove during & after storms for plowing.
Highest visitation is in July & August. It can be difficult to find a campsite at popular campgrounds on summer Saturdays.ResourcesSequoia & Kings Canyon National Park Official site, including information about natural resources, news, events, camping, lodging, fees, permits, and facilities.www.nps.gov/seki/Sequoia National Parkwww.visitsequoia.com/Sequoia & Kings Canyon National ParksEverything you wanted to know about Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.www.sequoia.national-park.com/

An instructional staff of over 20 individuals will introduce your child to the beauty of nature and the importance of caring for and conserving our natural resources. The majority of the instruction takes place "on the trail" as students study animal and plant life, geology, astronomy, Native American and pioneer history, as well as the interdependence of all living things. Learning is firsthand and experiential as students use dip nets to search for aquatic insects in the stream, visit the quartz mine to search for quartz crystals or view the heavens through the large SCICON telescope. The SCICON curriculum is an important part of your child's education supplementing the curriculum of the California State Department of Education. Your child is not taking a week off from school, rather his or her classroom is just being expanded to the 1100-acre outdoor classroom at SCICON. Mixed in with this environmental education curriculum are many important social and experiential activities. Night hikes, campfire programs, hiking the Sky Trail and skit night are just some of the many activities which make SCICON an unforgettable experience.

Oaks History:
Professional Baseball in Visalia has a long and rich history, dating back over 100 years to the 1880’s. Back then, club teams from Visalia played squads from Bakersfield and Fresno in front of paid audiences in diamonds cut out of farmland. There has been major league affiliated baseball in Visalia since Recreation Park opened in 1946. During the intervening 64 years, a minor league club has played in Visalia in every year except for the stretch from 1963-67. Even more remarkably, Visalia has been a part of the California League for that entire time. Through eleven different major league affiliations and years as an independent and co-op, the Visalia club has sent 140 players on to the big leagues. Visalia has been the league champion three times and finished in first place five times.
The greatest players to call Recreation Park home include the recently departed Kirby Puckett, Vada Pinson, Marty Cordova, and current A’s star Eric Chavez. Seven league MVP’s have played in Visalia.
Visalia has played as the Oaks since 1977 excluding a brief stint as the Central Valley Rockies in 1993 & 1994.
